hi ,my first message,i was at seaham bootsale sunday and saw a light brown carrion crow on the carpark field with other black ones, have many been spotted or is this rare?

Hi campervanman and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

This bird most likely has a form of leucism, which you can read more about in our Opus Dictionary. It's quite a complicated subject!

Whilst not 'rare' as such, it is fairly unusual, mostly you see birds with the odd white feather.

hi delia, went to opus dictionary and it seems my crow lacked eumelanins !!! getting a bit technical for me ,but by the discription sounds right.will sleep ok tonight.
