Tripod for Swaro ATS80 (1 Viewer)

I have the above scope and it is quite heavy and my Velbron Delta tripod seems to struggle under the weight, does anyone have any recommendations/advice for something more up to the job?

Thanks

Most tripods are designed for photography where the equipment is normally a fair bit heavier. The problem with a spotting scope is that it offers FAR higher magnification than the big/heavy lenses that you see being used by photographers. For example your scope weighs less than my camera - let alone the 4.5 kilos of lens attached to it.
The problem is that an inadequate tripod will not help you get a nice steady image, though it will easily support the weight. Personally I would not skimp on the tripod and head as they will greatly improve your viewing experience.
My setup is a Manfrotto 701 HDV head (bare minimum in my opinion) on top of a Gitzo GT2531 (just about adequate) or a Gitzo GT 3530LS - MUCH better!
I know the prices of the current Gitzo tripods are a bit scary but there are good used ones out there.
I am sure others will come back recommending cheap bendy tripods, don't waste your money.
