Heard tonight 11/10/15 at approx 19:30 hrs, for a good 20 minutes or so.

Had an amateur guess that this might be a sparrowhawk, but seeking confirmation/information from someone with experience in these matters.

To be fair, i couldn't understand why a sprawk would be calling at night...

so much to learn. Thanks in advance,

50% chance it is, yes! The old idea that females do 'to-whit' and males do 'to-woo' has been debunked, apparently both do both.

I have a female that starts to call here (Nottingham) at this time of the year for the last 5 years in a fairly urban area. Heard her for the first time this autumn a few days ago but never here her later than about Feb?
