odd finch (1 Viewer)

Anyone identify this small finch I saw at Thorney Island, Hants, back in August?
It was small, resembling siskin in size and shape; with brown head, bill and back, yellow throat, delicate orange belly, white neck and white wing patch, white outer tail feathers, flesh-coloured legs.
It was on a grass path and allowed approach to within 6ft before flying off strongly to nearby trees.
I assume it was an escaped cage-bird but have been unable to find anything like on net.

Hi Wishbone,

Welcome to BirdForum!

Sounds like an escape to me too, probably a breeders' hybrid of some sort - I'm getting hints of possible Linnet x Canary cross from the description. But it'll probably be impossible to pin it down exactly, as there's a multitude of cagebird breeds and they vary hugely in e.g. how much albinism, etc, they show.
