I tried to edit my previous post but can't so I'm just adding some extra info here.
If you're thinking Linux is an operating system no one uses, perhaps you should realise you are almost certainly already using it.......... It is the operating system in all Android phones (and many others), Sky plus boxes, DVD players/PVR boxes, most routers/wifi units, most internet servers on the web and many, many uther everyday electronic devices.
Finally, as Apple are now using Intel hardware (quite specific) if you REALLY want a mac but can't justify the expense, or afford to buy one, there is another possibility. It's legality is questionable but it doesn't prevent many people from converting their existing PC's or buildiing/buying the specific hardware to create one.
