I used to visit quite regularly and it has always been "hard work" spotting anything - judging it against UW so not fair really.
Like a lot of places regular visits for many hours at a time were best but even I managed to go into trances at times.
I think a few hardy souls put in some hard work every week but the vegetation seems to overtake them.
The boggy nature of the place needs a lot of care during the year with the need for large machinery to harvest the "crop".....that must swallow up any budget allowed for the overall jobs.
It seems the Trust would like it as a place to just walk around and not linger too long. I dont think I will ever visit again as I cannot travel around anymore but would love to read on here of any improvements that might happen in the future.

11.30...cold and dark..
Buzzard in tree behind hide.
Male King showed TOO SOON...just as I opened hide window...flew around a couple of perches and dived once then left towards Dragon pool.

Only other one of note was a Little Grebe at far end of pool.

Have been visiting once a week for a few hours hoping for the elusive Kingfisher....only had it once ....it flew to far end and hovered over the middle but stayed out of site at back of islands....must have left undetected or fell asleep...lol

Today had a Female Roe Deer (?) and baby run across open space and into the marshy area.Had one 2 weeks ago in the field to the left of track as well.

Loads of Swallows over the harvested fields and water....also all landing in the tree in the centre of the field.

As the paths have gone a chance to walk around the field edges where there were a lot of Common Blues...mainly Male but had a rather tatty Female as well.

A nice Brimstone popped in as well.

A PAINTED LADY ....only my 2nd ever gave me the runaround as it was lightning fast....it kept touching down on the floor of the cut field for a micro second....too quick to feed so could have been laying eggs....

BROWN HAIRSTREAK....could anyone say whats the time to see them as I might be able to visit in the week ....bearing in mind I dont even know if they are around yet ...or am I too late.

Thank you I've only started going to bird hides recently and only been to this hide a few time and seen the King twice so guessed it was quite a common site. Don't know much about dragonflies either but that sounds great.

Apologies for the quality of the pics, this site seems to only let me upload 2mb images...

Apart from the odd Mallard and Little Grebe its all about insects here.....most ever Painted Lady on whats left of the flowers along with good numbers of Male Common Blues. A few Small Copper and a couple of different sized Whites but again I couldn't find the Hairstreaks. Also a few Small Tortoiseshell and a Peacock.
Found a new moth for me - hovering very low down and been advised its a Gold Spot which like wet habitat and it should be at home here - ask my feet !
Dragons and Damsels just everywhere....

BUT...while over at the Dragon Pool area I looked behind me and a Kingfisher flew off the little perch I had put in for the Dragons...it went into the trees on the path....I hid and waited but after about half hour gave up and then as I was half way over the style 2 Kings flew around the trees and off up the field towards the big house on Moors Lane. They had not made their way to the hide as someone was in there at the time and didn't see them....

A Heron and a Female Deer moved on as I opened the hide window....then a quiet hour.
A Kestrel circled the pool before flying off to the tree in the middle of the field then later was seen with something in its talons.
A young Female Kingfisher played me up for about 10 mins before going off behind the right-side Willow....took me 10 months to get a King around the pond.
