Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (2 Viewers)

Red Kite reported over Salwarpe this afternoon per Rob Williams on the 'birding in Worcestershire' thread.

Could be the same bird I saw near Knight's Grove on Friday.

Chiffchaffs now widely but thinly spread across the patch - Tapenhall (3), Hawford, Porter's Mill (2), Mildenham, Knight's Grove area, Droitwich Woods (2) and Salwarpe (2+).

Flocks of Meadow Pipits passing through in various places - 35 feeding in a small paddock near Chatley.

Lone Lapwings seen at Tapenhall, Chatley and near Ladywood.

2 Snipe near Mildenham and 4+ flew from Coney Meadow at dusk.

Tawny Owl calling from Salwarpe area yesterday evening.

Singing Yellowhammers around Knight's Grove.

Water Rails seen at Tapenhall (2) and Hawford (along canal) and heard from Coney Meadow.

A Pipistrelle bat was flying in broad daylight yesterday near Harford Hill - must be starving!

3 Brimstone Butterflies, 3 Small Tortoiseshells and a Red Admiral seen yesterday.

Unfortunately, it appears that a large section of fringing reeds along the canal between Salwarpe and Ladywood has been removed on the towpath side (100 metres or so) over the past week - it looks like the CRT and / or Pamela May Trust are up to the same thing they did last year - I'm just about to contact the CRT to see what's going on.

Willow Warbler just west of Salwarpe village in small plantation.

A singing male Blackcap near Tapenhall this morning was probably an authentic spring migrant as all of the wintering birds appeared to clear out in early March.

Six Redpolls near Hawford.

A pair of Gadwall at Tapenhall this morning.

A lone Greylag flew down the valley near Ladywood.

Two singing Blackcaps at Tapenhall.

Four Yellowhammers around Knight's Grove.

A drake Tufted Duck and a pair of Gadwall were on floods at New Mill. A Green Sandpiper called from the sewage works area but I couldn't see it.

A Greylag flew over High Park towards Westwood.

No Sand Martins at all this evening but 80+ Pied Wagtails roosted. 13 Meadow Pipits over Harford Hill.

5+ Snipes flew from the reed bed at dusk and a Tawny Owl called from Salwarpe village.

The Barn Owl was a very pale individual on its upper parts.

2 Sand Martins over Sinton Lane and a Roe buck in one of the fields - with a full set of antlers.

Male Lapwing on ploughed field near Chatley. A Stoat ran across the lane.

Mandarins still present this evening at New Mill.

One Swallow and one Sand Martin over Coney at dusk possibly roosted. Seven distant hirundines over towards Westwood earlier in the evening.

A Kingfisher flew down the canal.

Male and female Tawny Owls calling in the churchyard.

A very large, powerful accipiter just flew over Sinton Lane near Knight's Grove - from the size, shape and build it must have been a Goshawk.

Singing Willow Warbler near Linacre bridge.

3 Greylag over.

Water Rail showing well along the canal at Tapenhall.

Kingfisher flew past.

Another Water Rail showing well near Linacre bridge.
