Finally after all the years of visiting Feckenham I have got it..........there is always an issue with parking/access to the site and the Trust have been confusing the matter (in my eyes) by stating No Parking then when you get there it says you can park.
We all know there was some "trouble" a few years ago when Kingfishers caused mayhem with people filling up the lane and the trust said not to park there as they might be liable to repair bills......

I visited the other day and as I parked there was a trust Land Rover there with a chap called James who told me not to park in lane as there was a new No Parking sign on the entrance....I pointed out the notice in the hide and he said he would remove it......he had not later. He explained that the lane is PRIVATE and only the trust can use it for maintenance only ......I now had it.....

SO EVERYONE - DO NOT DRIVE CARS DOWN THE LANE - PARKING IN THE CAR PARK IS NOT THE ISSUE AS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE THERE.

Please park elsewhere...there is free parking in the centre of the village.....but god help them if a mega turned up here....I know..not likely.

Anyway I met young Jude there ...he is outstanding at wildlife and in particular birds......hope he keeps it up through his life.
He spotted and I.D'd this Sparrowhawk as soon as it swooped down over the side of hide before going up and around the pool then into the woods.......anyone know what it had caught ???

Keith

1.Sparrowhawk with catch
2.Male Ruddy Darter

In all fairness Keith the Trust's website does make it explicit that parking is in the village only: http://www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/reserves/feckenham-wylde-moor

Thanks Dick-E-Dipper ....Thats what we thought but we did not see it take anything like that (not that there are any young at Feckenham),Think it might have come from out of the trees to the right and did not see any commotion.
As it got about when I took the snap it was mobbed by some unknown birds but no Moorhen/coot looked alarmed.

Sorry Phil only just spotted the reply..........yes i know that but there are signs in the hide that contradict it.....I have put a sign up asking for them to take down the WRONG sign.

Anyway I dragged my pensioners bad back ALL the way from the village yesterday and as per usual not a lot around except the insects.

Lots of the big dragons and a few Hornets....looked for Hairstreaks but not sure if right time.
Had a flypast from a Jay in the distance and saw it had an Acorn in its beak...Autumns here now...he he.

Yeah......does not like coming close.....the light does not really get on the close perches anyway...she knows when people are in the hide and even flies away when she spots you when she is only 1/2 way up the pool.

Theres a Water Rail around but as usual it likes hiding. Just remembered I got a snap of it the other day...have to try and sort it out.

Just got around to sorting out the Water Rail snaps from before xmas.....it wanted to cross from the island to below the hide but knew I was in the hide and was scared. It got 1/2 way and doubled back ...went along the front of island then around to the landing deck and crossed there.

Nothing wrong with the shot....I have spent hours waiting for one to land in the past few years...was it calling so you could sex it.:t:

On my visit a few weeks ago the water was smelly and coloured and I put it in book...thanks to the warden for the reply......its a natural Oxygen related thing..

In the book today was a comment about how overgrown things are.....I am sure it too will get a reply but the writer will not see it as they are not visiting again......
See pic for comment....

Saw a Dead Vole on the ground as I left car park but old age stopped me noticing if it was there when I returned.....

A Deer ran off though the Marshy grass with a Buzzard overhead......lots of Reed Buntings...Tits and other Brown jobs flitting across.

That's the trouble with hides, once you put one in views need to be maintained. Not sure of the set-up at Feckenham with regard to people available to maintain and also whether it's not done due a disturbance issue? Not a place I go to as, from a birding point of view, it doesn't seem too productive... although maybe that's 'cos no-one goes anything like semi-regularly to put news out?
