Worcestershire Butterflies,Moths and Dragonflies (1 Viewer)

Hi Des....which one is this please....from today by Hopwood.
Keith :t:

It looks like you have picked a female to photograph which means there is no scent line: a diagnostic feature. In addition, the other important difference between Small and Essex Skipper are the antenna which should be viewed from underneath so that the brown, in the case of Small Skipper, and black for Essex, can be seen. The upper part of the antenna, as viewed in your image, look dark in both species. Better luck next time.

Des.

He he..its a minefield...now wheres the drawing board.

Keith :t:

Here is a Small Skipper seen at Moseley Bog today. The upper view shows the distinctive slightly curved scent line, whilst the other view shows the antenna which are brown underneath unlike the black of Essex Skipper.

I've thrown in a Roesel's Bush Cricket, also seen at the same site today.

Des.

There were a lot of what looked like pristine Marbled Whites about the other day and some had this golden edge to the wings...does it mean its a Female ??

A few pics of some nice (but common) moths from my weekend garden trapping sessions over the last couple of weeks:

Burnished Brass
Yellow Tail
Scalloped Oak
Shaded Broad-bar
Pug spp. - Mottled Pug is my best guess - any opinions?

Brown Argus or Common Blue?

I found and photographed this today and throw myself on the mercy of the wise men amongst us! - Is this a Brown Argus? It looks like the Brown Argus photos on http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk.

Thanks in anticipation!
