Moikka! I live in Jyväskylä central Finland and have been looking this Forum quite lot. So much good discussion here about binoculars and scopes. Much more also but those interested me most, because I have been thinking of getting better binocular. Now I have hawke Sapphire 8x43 and Zeiss terra 8x25. Both nice, but it might be wonderful to have something like Zeiss Conquest or Nikon Monarch HG. Maybe monarch hg 8x42 is better for casual birding than Conquest 8x42 or 10x42.

Hi Markkuli and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

The guys in the Binocular forums will help you to decide which ones to go for.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

Terve!

I used to spend my summers near Ruovesi and on an Island off the 314 Pulkkilantae... Awesome times and memories. I used to love finding an Osprey or the Divers or hearing and trying to find the owls!

Have fun...

Terve Markkuli,

I watched Timo Makinen near Jyvaskyla driving his Mini Cooper S in 1965 in the Thousand Lakes rally.
I didn't actually think he was that fast, but he won.

My Mini Cooper S was one of the first. I bought it in May 1963.
I used to enjoy the Finnish dirt roads, beautifully sculptured and very fast.
Then I had the land crab, Austin 1800, which was great on these roads.

The most amazing piece of driving I ever saw was a truck with two large trailers containing trees.
It was going downhill at 90 km/hour enveloped in snow.
Stopping distance perhaps 1km.
The photo I took is one of the best I have.

I later hired old Ford Escorts with studded tyres.
At one place I got out and could not stand up it was so slippery.

Enjoy your time here.

Terveisin,
B.

1,000 lakes rally is on my bucket list (they passed the summer cottage one year when I wasn't there!) - that said hope I've got time - and have a trip in the offing next July....

I did the weirdest day at the rac rally once, at Cheltenham, with my friend being the sole representant for Peugeot in a 106 rally car (Peugeot pulled out the night before and we went anyway). We were parked between Toyota (Tommi Makinen), Seat, Subaru (Macrae I think) Renault (Head) etc with a few flyers and a 106 with the bonnet open! Great fun though. Front row seat though - historic cars on the Saturday and the race Sunday.

That rally in Jyväskylä is called nowadays Neste Rally. Never been there, it is really big happening here. Some local people love it and others really hate it, but it's only one weekend. It was nice to read your stories all you folks!
