Report images in the Gallery with the wrong scientific name (1 Viewer)

The Gallery Search for Australasian Pipit shows a number of Richard's Pipits, particularly on the second page.

I suppose they come from a pre-split time?

Is it OK to change all of these to Anthus richardi ?

Anthus novaeseelandiae (called Richard's Pipit pre-split) was split into five species:
Australasian Pipit - Anthus novaeseelandiae
Richard's Pipit - Anthus richardi
Paddyfield Pipit - Anthus rufulus
African Pipit - Anthus cinnamomeus
Mountain Pipit - Anthus hoeschi

Anthus novaeseelandiae now applies only to the Australasian birds in the gallery (even though some of them are named Richard's Pipit).

The following, therefore, should probably have their scientific names changed:

Should be Paddyfield Pipit - Anthus rufulus - Changed

Should be Paddyfield Pipit - Anthus rufulus - Changed
This photo is used for Opus page of Richard's Pipit (incorrectly).

Oh gawd.... what have I started:eek!:

OK I'll try and work my way through them er.... I may be some time LOL

Wondering if it's worth flagging your query ones up on the ID forum?

D

Hi Alan

I've edited the photos to reflect what you seem to be sure about. I've also edited your post above to show which ones I've done. (Sorry.... never thought to read the comments, so didn't see Cuckooroller's posts)

I think the Kent one is likely to be correct as a Richard's - they do turn up here in the Autumn.

Over to you experts now to sort out the IDs of the others LOL

All three photos seem to be of the same Corn Bunting - it's certainly neither Pine nor Black-headed!

Thanks Stuart... I thought the middle one was a Corn Bunting, but having never seen Pine or Black-headed, didn't want to look silly in case they were juveniles of one or the other.

But then, again, I probably do look silly now:-O

Thanks André

and greetings from a temporarily sunny Scotland

Not exactly wrong name, but lacking... the Oriental White-Eye (Zosterops palpebrosa... or palpebrosus, it seems to be so now) is a widespread and quite common bird (as far as I know) but there are not many images in the gallery, only about 12 or so uploaded during all these years.

So I think it's better these images have the correct name added, they are nice pictures and might be useful to locate them properly:

If not, just forget about my suggestion! ;)

Cheers everybody!!! B :)

Thanks for these Marian. Scientific name now added.

You're right... very nice photos.

Hello everybody

i have corrected and added the Scientific name of the Hedydipna metallica, the Nile valley sunbird on the shots i have uploaded in the past 18 mouths so maybe one of them make good shot for OUPS.

i am not trying to praise my shots, all are not to the standard of many posts in OPUS, it is just some of them show the different colors of the male.

thanks

Thanks very much for that Doux.

There's some nice pictures there. They'll need some studying to get the right balance of plumages. It's great to have a good choice.

Just noticed that many pics of the Lewis's Woodpecker (Melanerpes lewis) in the gallery lack the Scientific Name. It's a not so much photographed beautiful Woopecker and there are several gorgeous pics of it that I think should be completed, for everybody better to find them. Odd, the best pics of it in the gallery are the ones with less information! :eek!:

Here there are the links to some images I selected:

http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=187797

http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=316035

just in case you consider interesting to take some time in doing this job. Maybe some might be uploaded to Opus too, they are beautiful pics!!! o:)

Cheers!

Thanks for finding these Marian. All have the scientific name added now.

Great job:t:
