Adjusting Photos with Nik and Photoshop (1 Viewer)

I was talking with a friend of mine who is a Photographer and who has had a lot of his work published by companies like Freightliner and General Motors. He now teaches photography, and graphic arts and I showed him the Black Crowned night Heron photo. He offered some minor processing suggestions and I tweaked it a little in Photoshop and Nik. So here it is please let me know what you think. I have included the before and after photo.

Actually, I think I prefer the "before" to the garish colors of the "after". Maybe if you moved a little in that direction there might be some improvement but I think as things stand you've overdone it.

I find the distracting background also somewhat of a problem. Also, the overall softness.

Just my two cents, of course. . ..

[Edit] I think you might get a better response in the photo critique forum. You might ask the mods to move the thread there.
