Not the best morning for birding. Cold front pushing through brought rain, winds, and dropping temps. Out at sunrise chasing a Harris's Sparrow (Rarity) till 10 a.m.. About 30 min after we left a fellow birder called to say the bird finally popped up for a good look. Aggghh. Well at least only a hour drive away from house so will try again another day. Still a few birds to be found along with these for the new year.

Spent the weekend up in Gainesville FLorida. On the way up stopped in Hernando County (Brooksville) and was able to see the Harris's Sparrow that has been up there for awhile now. Than onto Gainesville. Birded several areas but primarily Paynes Prairie La Chua Trail. Been extremely dry in Florida this winter but did find some good birds including several rare ones. Went to Sweetwater Preserve this morning to finish of the trip and picked up a few year birds. Great time, was just a little warm for this time of year.

Great day..........left the house at 5 am to drive south to Ft Myers. Arrive at 7 am to find a new state bird. Brandt. On to Harns Marsh for target birds of Grey Swamphen and Snail Kite. Found both. We were running earlier than expect so drove back north an hour to Babcock Webb WMA. Scored 3 of target birds Bachman sparrow, Brown Headed Nuthatch, and Red-cockaded Woodpecker. Despite searching no luck on Hairy Woodpecker. Off to next stop on way home. Palmer Lake and Celery Fields. Palmer Lake we found several species of shorebirds and scored a Crested CaraCara. Back over to Celery Field but whiffed on the Bronzed Cowbird. Think we were to late in day as it was getting hot. All in all great fun with a couple of friends. Heres my up to date list.

The weather has been wonderful. Actually to nice. A few migrants continue to trickle in but no fallout conditions expected within the next 7 Days. Yesterday was spent at Ft DeSoto Park in Pinellas County. My first Good Friday off from school - ever. Some new birds arrived late this week but are quickly moving on as the north winds shifted to the east. The east winds did bring us Blackpol and Cape May Warblers. The Male Cape May's are always so stunning this time of year. FOS Gray Kingbird showed up in the park and greeting me at sunrise calling across the Fort parking lot. They will stay and breed in park over summer. Love to her any of the Kingbirds.

My additions from yesterday. Will be back out this morning to see if anything new shows up

Weekend migration slowed to a halt. Was still good to see some birds still hanging around yesterday. Had a few this morning. Seems to be the year for Worm-Eating Warblers. Had 3 more today and 2 yesterday. Finally got my Short Tailed Hawk. Looks like they are back on nest at Sawgrass Lake park. No confirmation yet if Swallow-tailed Kits are nesting again this year. Kites are in park but no nest found.
