Hi
I might be interested in your trip. Maybe not for the whole 8-10 days though. What's the plan? What are your target birds?
All the best
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
I just saw this. My rough itinerary is:
June 3 - arrive in Adana mid-afternoon, go to sleep early
June 4 - wake up very early, drive to the Goksu Delta. Spend a day there, then drive to Aydincik.
June 5-7 - boat trips searching for Mediterranean Monk Seal
June 8 - drive to Demirkazik, stopping at Uzuncaburc on the way back.
June 9 - 10/11: Demirkazik
June 10/11 - 14 : Birecik and Nemrut Dagi
June 14 - Fly to Istanbul mid-afternoon
If it takes me fewer than three days to see the Seal, I'll leave Aydincik early and spend more time birding.
My target birds include, but are not limited to, Caspian Snowcock, See-see Partridge, Iraq Babbler, Krueper's Nuthatch, Radde's Accentor, Olive-tree Warbler, Menetries's Warbler, Ruppell's Warbler, White-throated Robin, Finsch's Wheatear, Kurdistan Wheatear, Dead Sea Sparrow, Red-fronted Serin, Eurasian Crimson-winged Finch, Cinereous Bunting, Cretzschmar's Bunting, Eleonora's Falcon, Masked Shrike, and Sombre Tit.
As you can tell from my itinerary, I'm going to make a serious effort to see Mediterranean Monk Seal. I'm also planning to look for other mammals, like Bezoar Ibex in Demirkazik and Euphrates Jerboa, Goitered Gazelle, and Long-eared Hedgehog around Birecik.
PM me if you are interested or have more questions. I've already memorized most of the bird sounds for the region, which is probably overkill considering the habitats, but I'm used to it from birding the tropics.
Ben
