Any Advice for a September Visitor to Scotland? (1 Viewer)

Hello all.

An expat Scot living in Southern California, I'm retired after many years in the media biz and enjoying a new life as an avid wildlife photog.

I'll be visiting Perthshire in September on family business and will grab any chance to do some birding. Can anyone suggest likely locations for bird and beast encounters at summer's end? I have a Canon 5D and Sigma 500mm. I don't have any particular species in mind: if it has feathers or fur I'll shoot it. My philosophy is I'd rather take a great picture of a house sparrow than a blurred shot of a honey buzzard.

Thanks for any help, and congrats on a terrific website.

Hi Sgriob

Thanks for dropping by to say Hello - a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

You could start your search for ideas in the Opus articles.. this is the Scotland Page. I can recommend Vane Farm, Loch of the Lowes, just across the border in Angus is Kinnordy (my favourite) and in Fife there's the Eden Estuary. But there's plenty more places.

It might be an idea to post in the Scotland subforum too, so you can pick everyone's brains. Perthshire is quite a large county, so it might help if you could say whereabouts you will be staying.

Welcome to BirdForum! I am sure you will find lots to interest you here, and I hope you enjoy your visits.
