Red Crossbills in Missouri (1 Viewer)

Some of the birding gurus are forecasting a southerly movement of winter finches/etc. coming into USA states this winter because of poor cone/seed crops in Canada.

Today a friend of mine just telephoned me that he had seen three (3) RED CROSSBILLS at Pershing State Park which is located in north central Missouri. I will probably bird some of the area there and in other near by areas as soon as I can to see what is about!

There have been a few sightings here in Pennsylvania too.

There is an interesting article on Red Crossbills here.

They're are asking anyone that has recordings of Red Crossbill calls to contact Matt Young directly at [email protected] so the birds' type can be identified.

One of the birds seen here was identified at Type 3 from a spectrogram made from a cell phone recording.
