Ebay Petition (1 Viewer)

Hiya chaps, I've seen this petition going around to try to stop Ebay from selling mist nets and spring traps. It says that ringers never buy nets from ebay and only people wanting to trap for illegal reasons buy from there.
It also says that spring traps are never used by ringers but I'm sure I have seen ringers using them before.
So my questions are, do any ringers get their nets from Ebay and are spring traps used by ringers. I want to know whether it's a good idea to sign or whether it's just a load of dogooders getting it wrong.
Cheers.

I think overall this has to be a good thing to stop the massive illegal trapping of passerines world wide either for the cage bird or delicacy trade. And also the minor unauthorised ringing by individuals though I would imagine it's low in the UK. I last knew of a spring trap that was used by an experienced qualified ringer / trainer a few years ago - these no doubt are fine in such users hands but I suspect they too fall under the misuse of equipment.

I've posted comment here before about the number of stuffed birds available, often from China and I'd be pretty certain that they've been recently killed to sell on ebay.

Nobody on here seemed that fussed to be honest IIRC.

I'd also be pretty confident that birds like these from Italy, were illegally killed

Fot the curious, just search taxidermy or taxidermy, bird on ebay, they are without morals.

Signed, no qualms from me, mist nets should only be sold on the production of a valid ringing licence from the appropraite authority.

Ditto. Though I'll note that researchers also use mist nets for other legitimate purposes, so a ringing/banding license or similar credential should be required.
