Why would a bird sit on dead birds? (1 Viewer)

Hello - I noticed today that a bird made a nest on my patio furniture. Isn't this a weird spot as any animal can get to it? When the bird flew away, I saw two birds under it. They do not look like baby birds, and they appear to be dead. I'm not at all familiar with birds or there behavior, but is this normal? Also, when the bird is sitting on the nest or next to the nest, it does not fly away when we go next to it. I'm having trouble uploading the photos I took, but are there any birds out there that this is common with? All I can tell you is it's a brown bird, big belly, and slightly slanted beak. Thanks!
