Hello, I'm getting into bird photography bit by bit. I used to be mad keen on birds when I was younger and I've found I've started pointing my camera at birds a lot more lately, picking up lenses that help me along the way. I'm trying to work out the next lens to go alongside my Canon 70-300 USM and Tamron 150-600mm, which is how I came by this site. I'm thinking of a 300mm f4l with 1.4x TCII option, which is what pulled me here, as I read some quality debates/rows in the associated thread :eek!:. Anyway, good to be here, and I hope to learn lots.

Hi Antique Eruption and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I look forward to hearing your news and will hopefully see some of your pictures in the Gallery too.

I'm not long back from a month in Abergavenny.... didn't make it to Cardiff though, 'twas planned, but Neville Hall called instead sadly!

Hi Antique Eruption. Welcome to BirdForum. I look forward to reading your posts.

Nice Grey Phalarope at Ogmore today. If it sticks around until tomorrow you should be able to get some decent shots. Assuming this godawful weather clears:smoke:

|:||Thanks all, a very friendly welcome! Thanks for saying hello, and thanks for the tips already. I've just posted x2 in the gallery from the weekend. Simple, common fayre, but I'm working towards more elusive creatures. I'll keep an eye out for tips, and will also consider heading out with any friendly, generous locals who can assist me with improving my skills and - more importantly - show me where to go and how to approach birds. I scared a heron the other day that in turn scared off a whole flock of cormorants (there's probably a collective noun for them) I was sneaking up on |:||

Forest Farm is very popular. It's only small but the photographers there get some great pictures of Water Rail, Snipe, Bittern, Kingfishers etc.

Well worth a visit.
