8 bit or 16 bit (1 Viewer)

Photoshop CS5 does all its adjustments to 16 bit images. A number of the facilities in Elements 9 require that the images are reduced to 8 bit before they will work.
Does this have any noticeable effect on the quality of the finished image when printing
