Checked out a couple of potential sites for Nightjar this morning. One of the areas was absolutely stuffed with birds including Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Swifts, Linnets, Skylarks, Meadow Pipits etc. plus a pretty fetching pale Common Buzzard.

Dipped on Bearded Tits at Newport Wetlands again yesterday but had some semi-decent views of a Cettis and Blackcaps. Heaps of Reed Buntings around along with a few Common Whitethroats, Sedge Warblers and Chiffchaffs. Couldn't pick out the Lesser Whitethroat though.

Not a new bird species but another mammal to add to the year list. Having had to work on, huge compensation came in the form of a cracking view of a Badger on the lane up to the house:t:

Cracking day out today. Headed up to Newport Wetlands Centre first thing. Dipped as usual on the Beardies. :-C To make it worse a birder from Barry had seen a couple earlier in the morning. Plenty of Sedge and Reed Warblers to distract though:t:

From here it was over to Goldcliff. Great to see some Avocet chicks, Greenshank, LRP and a possible Wood Sandpipero:D

Being given the full day off by Sars it was now up to Nags Heads RSPB reserve. A beautiful little reserve but the wrong time of the year to visit. Did the "long" track but could not locate a Hawfinch. A couple of Jays and a Spotted Flycatcher were enjoyable to watch though.

Hanley Farm Shop provided lunch courtesy over a cracking Pork Pie. I've just had a bottle of Kingstone Gold Fine Ale from the Kingstone Brewery as well. A lovely dropB :)

Over to Cannop Ponds for the plastic ducks but still a year tick:smoke: No males present this time.

172. Mandarin Duck

Fingers crossed that number 173 will be confirmed soon taking me past last year's total.

Had a wander around Penclacwydd earlier today with my two boys. Very quiet bird wise. A couple a Greenshank and a few Black Tailed Godwits being about it.

Decided to go for a short stroll around Pembrey Harbour and Burry Port harbour afterwards. Heaps of people about enjoying this glorious weather. Also:

174. Sandwich Tern c12 of them.

Heading to a Villa near Nerja on Saturday for 2 weeks so the birding is going to be very relaxed.
