If I saw this bird in Europe, I would probably think "what a strange sanderling". But this being on the Pacific coast in Central America, I'm not sure what to make out of it. Calidris mauri/pusilla? Or in fact a Sanderling?

Location: Pacific Ocean coast of Golfo Dulce in Zancudo, south-eastern Costa Rica

It has a hind toe, so it isn't a Sanderling.

What appeared to the OP as a hind toe may on further inspection actually be the far toe on its foot

That`s a good point. Everything else says sanderling to me

Could be - in which case, yes, Sanderling (since that's what it looks like otherwise!).
