Grackle? - Cape May, New Jersey, US (1 Viewer)

This bird photographed in Cape May area in april. Is it a Common Grackle? When I saw the bird I thought so but looking at the picture it seems to have a very short tail for a grackle?

Sure is a Grackle; blue/purple head sheen, white iris and tail shape with 'turned up' corners all say Grackle.

Hard to get Common or Boat-tailed for me from the angle, and hard to know tail length from this angle too....
 
Grackles lose and regrow their tails in the fall. They look quite odd for a couple of weeks. Maybe this one just needs a couple days to grow his in?
