American or Pacific Golden plover? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,
This bird was seen in Barbados today May 4,2017 and while AGP is a regular visitor to our shore it would be rare, maybe even the earliest record of this species. We had only 3 records of PGP on the island and all of these records were around this time of year. I did a bit of research and was able to eliminate European GP but need your expert to separate the last two.

From the book I have to hand, suggest pgp. Although first photo suggests wings might project beyond tail, second suggests the opposite (good for pgp). Clincher might be flight photo where legs clearly beyond tail (=pgp)

The contrast between yellow looking notches on the back feathers and much whiter notches on the wings is (I believe) strongly indicative of Pacific, but whether it's enough to clinch I don't know.

One of the local birder went out to see the bird this morning. He was mainly on the look out for the under wing color. He reported that the under wing was greyish and the bird was missing primary feathers. He said the call was unlike any AGP he ever heard and the plumage was not what he was accustom seeing. He concluded the the bird was a AGP. With his permission i share some of his images later.

So it has a different call and plumage but it's still AGP?

Don't forget that we don't see this bird at this time of year. We mostly see them in the winter but will know for sure when i see his images

Here are a few images from this afternoon. I was able to get an under wing shot also. I hope the quality is good enough for a positive ID.

Still pgp for me for the reasons stated, also tertials close to tail tip, not clear that there is an 'obvious' supercilium. However, there are resources on line if you want to make up your own mind. Here's one :

Looks like pgp just going on the primary length of an agp
