Well, already the south side of France is very beautiful, certainly also to observe the southern sky over the sea.
If you have gasoline, next time you should arrive at least as far as Tuscany. In the Grosseto area (Saturnia) there is one of the three best places in Italy to observe the night sky. The other two are more uncomfortable-far.
