Hi JW,
Bewick was a skillful engraver and the feather texture in his woodcuts is unsurpassed. Only his bird shapes were wooden. Probably only Charles Tunnicliffe approached his standard. One of the lecturers was President of a Society that owned some of the original Bewick woodblocks. We were allowed to print off a few for own pleasure!
 
that is great I would love to have some of the woodblocks. I just finished Bewicks bio, Natures Engraver, an interesting book. I would like to try my hand at wood block carving.
