Any Birders Using the A7Riii or new A7iii? (1 Viewer)

Anyone out there using the A7Riii or A7iii for birding stills? Any practical experience of how autofocus compares between the two? How useful are the A7Riii's extra megapixels - i.e. what's the cropping like on A7iii files. Any sample pics here, or links to some, would be very interesting.

Having used both in the store, the A9 has the best auto focus, followed by the A7iii (same # of focus points, but the A9 has a adjusts the focus faster.). The A7Riii is slower by a fair margin.

If good autofocus is your key consideration, your main problem would be the choice of lenses. For long native sony FE lenses, there is only a 400mm prime and a 100-400mm available. There are some rumors of an upcomming Sony 200-600mm, but who knows when it will materialize, if at all, and whether it would be any good when it does appear.

Theres also the "real" resolution to consider. You would be lucky if these telephoto zoom lenses can resolve 20-30MP, and they are unlikely to out-resolve the A7Riii's 40+MP sensor. Some of that resolution will be wasted.

Theres the option of going for non FE lenses and adapting them to the camera. However this would lead to slower autofocus.
