Fly or Bee ID. Staffordshire UK

I am curious and at a loss as to what these insects are. They were flying over and occasionally landing momentarily on the vegetation in a small pool at a Staffordshire WT reserve namely Highgate Common. There were several of them and very flighty.

Photo's attached, they are the pic of the best I managed with my bridge camera. Help with ID will be appreciated.

Thank you for your help with the ID Ficedula. It is very much appreciated. The Sawflies looked quite striking in numbers!
