Birding for fun
Hi to all,
Spent Saturday in Suffolk with my partner. Due to the copious quantities of birding I have done over the last 10 weeks (22 days in April alone) I thought she would enjoy the day if I left all optical kit at home, apart from shades. Consequently down as a none birding day.
So: off to the Harbour Inn just off the golf course at Southwold. From the garden, during a pint of Broadside, watched a little egret feeding locally when along came hunting barn owl. Also up for grabs: lesser whitethroat singing, common whitethroat visible and selection of gulls and regulars.
Off to Dunwich for lunch at the Ship (not highly recommended) and had hobby over the beer garden. Later a walk on Dunwich Heath began with a variety of usual hirundines and warblers. However, whilst sitting on a bench heard a dartford warbler singing. 5 mins looking failed to produce a view so we moved back towards the car park. Near here, behind the offices and loos, got great views of DW on top of heather. Only then noticed twitchers gesticulating towards myself and W.. Pointed out to them, once bird had dived for cover, that I had heard another further up the track. After this marsh harrier soared over Minsmere so pretty good list for a definite none birding day

Nice one! Should have stopped at the Harbour Inn for lunch - they do the most fantastic fish and chips!
