"Birding hotspots in the Algarve - Tavira and the North-east" is now available.

This is the third volume of the series "Birding hotspots in the Algarve". It contains a description of the most interesting places for watching birds in the municipalities of Tavira and Alcoutim.

Other titles in this series are:
Volume 1 - Around Lagos
Volume 2 - Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António

The next volume (4) will cover the area of Faro and Olhão and is due in spring 2018.

Just got all three, makes me want to go back as soon as possible. Looking forward to the 4th. Is volume 5 going to cover west of Lagos to Sagres?

Looks interesting, thanks for posting.

Thanks.

I have not yet decided which area will be covered on vol. 5, but most likely either Albufeira and around or Serra do Caldeirão.

Sagres area will be available at a later stage, possibly in late 2018.

The whole series will comprise 9 volumes and my plan is to make them all available until mid-2019.

Thanks.

Excellent guide books

Received my copy of Volume 3 this week covering “Tavira and the North-East” and would like to say what a great little guidebook it is. Have visited the excellent Tavira Saltpans quite a few times during holidays in 2016 and 2017 however there are other sites described close by, such as Pinheiro, which I do not know and look forward to visiting when I return to the Algarve in May 2018.

We stay near Olhão so am particularly looking forward to Volume 4 as there are possibly hotspots in that area that I have not discovered. In October I did accidentally discover what I now refer to as “The Hoopoe Lawn” (37.0315623, -7.8260130) where during one visit I counted 17 birds feeding at the same time!

Going by Volume 3 I must say that the site maps are really good and make it particularly easy to find the sites on Street View/Google Earth so they can be explored in advance of a visit.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge through these excellent guides.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your message. I'm glad that you find this guidebook useful.

As soon as volume 4 is out, I will announce it here.

Hello Gonçalo,
is it possible to buy this series (vol. 1 in particular) any other way than via amazon? I mean on place in Portugal.

Hi michalb,

These books can only be purchased online (either via Amazon or other online retailers), they are not available on physical stores.

Thanks for the info. It's a pity though, as I won't be able to get one before I leave for Portugal on Saturday. Next time I have to wake up earlier ;)

The second edition of vol. 3 (Tavira and the north-east) has now been released (the first edition was in December 2017).

As with the second editions of volumes 2 and 4 (which have recently been published), contents have been totally revised, three new hotspots have been added (there are now 14 hotspots in this volume, covering the municipalities of Tavira and Alcoutim) and GPS coordinates have been included in the text in order to make it easier to get to the right places.
