Stoat or Weasel (1 Viewer)

Stoat's tail is also much longer than that. According to some zoologists that's why its worth the Stoat having a black tail tip, its a decoy for raptors and bigger land predators, causing them to strike in the wrong place: with a Weasel's small size the distance to a long tail tip wouldn't be worth having as a decoy as the strike would still land on the animal! Believe it if you will ;)

If you look at your Weasel's neck you will see the demarcation between top and bottom colour is wiggly. On a Stoat its straight or nearly so: certainly not convoluted like this.

I am jealous of your sighting and superb picture!

Thanks for the replies.
It was quite a confiding subject, at one point there were six or more of us all getting point blank views of it. Ironically it sneaked round the back of us just two metres away and caught a mouse or vole. Needles to say no pic was captured.
Thanks and best regards,
Mike.
