Ishikari Sand dunes Pond, Ishikari, Hokkaido, Japan 10:30


Hi!

Not quite sure if Eastern-spot bills
or Mallards
or other here.
I got confused
by the black and white patterns on the wings,
when I went to look in several field guides.
Any help well appreciated!

The bill pattern and colour in the first two pictures suggests a female. A male would show a plain yellow bill even in eclipse.

I agree, looks like a female Mallard to me also.

Seems to have a rather chestnut breast to me + a hint of green on the head. Doesn't look like a standard female to me.
