Given the considerable weight of a dSLR with a longish lens I wouldn't want to have it attached to a single lug on the camera body. The tripod attachment on body or even better lens makes a more load-bearing impression. Also don't like the idea of a smallish size plastic fastex buckle linking the rig to the strap.....
On longer lenses, mine is only 400mm, the lug attaches to the lens rather than the camera. I have a "Q" strap that I use if out all day and the weight distribution is far more comfortable than the neoprene neck strap. The camera hangs at my left hip and I tend to keep my hand on the lens mount to stop it swinging as I walk. I can't say I have ever experienced the robust, metal fixing working loose at all and at the end of the day it's as securely fixed as when I started out.
