Sustainable Himalayan Tours & Treks
Just came back after 4 days birding tour in Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve, Nepal. The 176 sq protected area of flood plane in the southeastern Nepal is a great bird watching destination. The unique birds that Koshi Tappu is popular for are : Swamp Francolin, Great Maina (recently recorded), Rufous vented Prinia. Along with these over 485 birds species have been recorded in the reserve.
February / March was great time for bird watching in Koshi Tappu as birds were very active for breeding. We saw vulture nests with young babies, parakeet and other birds mating. It was also great place for Owl, 4 different species of King fishers and about 8 different species of wood pickers.

The reserve protects impressive number of wild buffalo (Arna), Blue Bull, Gigantic Dolphin and wild elephants.

There are about three tented camps for accommodation, which are great for birding. One tented has deluxe tents with AC and attached bathroom / toilet. However November till mid March, you don't need AC as the temperature is moderate.
