Birds of Prey (2) by Brian k Wheeler

There's a review of both of these new and classic style field guides on my blog.

I have the old photo based Wheeler book, Raptors of... and in my foolishness, I got the East book. I’m now way West of the Mississippi. I’ve used it some 10 years, just the range maps were wrong. The book is out of print and I never got the West half (same birds).

This one has Peterson type paintings. In fact it looks like that book. Text and pics are together and there is refreshing behavior and habitat info. Well organized.

But I prefer photos.

Last in ABA list: 367 Cassin's finch (day before that had American dipper). Also added Atlantic puffin from 2009.
