Gull id confirmation please (1 Viewer)

Bah humbug
Did penance and went and looked at gulls yesterday afternoon. This one spent ages preening, in the first shot you can see the underside of the tail. Pretty sure there was a dark band at the end on the top side. (Taken at Littlebrook, Dartford, Kent, sorry about the quality, they're the best I could get.) Be grateful for some confirmation,

Cheers, Dan

The bill and head look good for Caspian Gull in the first shot but the photos are not really clear enough to hazard a guess about age.

Hi all.

Agree with Steve, does look like a Caspian Gull, 1st winter perhaps, tertials looks wholly brown.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

On the above, and from other correspondance, it would appear likely to be a 1st winter Caspian Gull (dark bill, grey saddle etc), not so unusual a bird since they appear here with apparent regularity. However, a new bird for me, and never gotten into large gulls before, so thought I'd better make sure.

And when I've moved up from a 20*60 scope and non-focussing camera setup, hopefully the pics should become a little better!

Cheers,
Dan

Well done Dan. Not sure that this isn't a new bird (therefore 11/12 Caspian here since December)

Nice to catch up with you yesterday.

Andy.
