Is my understanding of a Leica warranty non-transferrable to a second owner correct?, so when buyers procure a used, let's say a glass still being produced, they will have no warranty should something like the focus malfunction by it self, (which is normally covered under the first buyers warranty).

I own three Leicas and all are covered by warranty, but was just wondering if buyers of second hand glass are aware of this.

Some years ago, I bought a second hand UVHD 10x42. At that time it was a question of money and opportunity.
I noticed that the diopter ring was really loose and finicky to adjust and moreover I could find a slight internal fogging (or dirt) in the periphery of both the lenses : I guess I could have lived with that but this year I decided to send them directly to Leica (Portugal), without any warranty card or invoice, except the repair form one can find and fill online.
Three weeks later the UVHD was back, repaired and looking spanking new, absolutely free of charge, with the customer service documents and red seal.
This is a european experience so I don't know how this kind of stuff would be handled in the USA.

I've had good luck with non-warranty service from Leica USA: 12X50BN, 10X32BN, 8X32BN all repaired without charge. They did charge for a prism replacement on a 7X42BA as I recall.

John,

Another member from Delaware, I am Northwest DE near the PA border, and thanks for the input. I am asking for a friend who wants to get one (Leica), but is looking for a bargain without buying new. As I told him, sometimes things go wrong a few weeks into ownership (not from handling but internals), and they would have to be sent to Leica for service, it is the gamble of buying used.

Officially it is a non-transferable warranty, however, we can always make a call for you and see if we can assist.
