2 Snipe flushed from Copcut Rise early evening plus 5 more flew from Coney reedbed at dusk.
A female Tawny Owl called from Salwarpe village.
2 Gadwall around Hawford fishing pools this morning and 3 Greylags over there.
Kingfisher near the confluence this morning and at Salwarpe yesterday.
Singing Blackcaps around Salwarpe and Hawford over the past few days may be newly arrived migrants - impossible to tell for sure, given their constant presence over the winter. Interestingly, Portland Obs considered birds seen there over the past week to be new arrivals.
Chiffchaffs now present all over in good numbers.
Yellowhammer over near Bevere, Skylarks singing in many places, and few Meadow Pipits over, Linnets, a flock of c 20 Fieldfares near Salwarpe yesterday, Redwings over Coney this evening but definitely a drop in their numbers.
Water Rail singing from Coney reedbed yesterday evening.

Butterflies today included reasonable numbers of Brimstones (c10), 2 Commas, 2 Small Tortoiseshells and a Peacock. Tawny Mining Bees, Honey Bees and several Bumblebees flying around.

Lots of Toads in the canal.

A couple of Pipistrelles flying around this evening.

Rather quiet the last few mornings and evenings - apart from the dawn chorus, which is quite intense around daybreak (Song Thrushes, Blackbirds, Robins, Wrens, Dunnocks, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Reed Buntings, Skylarks, Nuthatch, Goldcrests, Coal and other Tits).

Redwings over yesterday morning - may be the last ones until October.

Swallows at Ladywood yesterday evening and Salwarpe village this morning
7 Cormorants flying towards Westwood this morning
House Martin at Porter's Mill yesterday evening plus Little Grebe on Tapenhall pool calling

The Goshawk flew in quite low and caused havoc amongst a group of Woodpigeons. As it flew off its bulk and powerful flight action were very distinct. It also showed a dark hood with broad white supercilium. The 'jiz' was quite peregrine-like.
