Shearwater in Dakar, Senegal

Hello everyone,

I photographed this bird off the coast of Dakar this morning. I believe it's a Shearwater, but I'm not 100% sure. Could you please confirm the species?

Much appreciated!

Thank you,

Jose

I agree with Lou, a Pallas's gull.

Thank you lou salomon and PYRTLE!

These are the 2 other photos I have of the bird, of not much quality I'm afraid. I hope they may help.

Thanks again!

Jose

I would have expected Audoin's to be much darker on the breast, upperwings and the upper back. For me, it all feels right for Pallas's in plumage, head size and bill structure.

Very much more likely but must admit, Pallas's was my instant reaction.

It’s definitely a 1st winter Audouin’s and no doubt Lou will agree to Audouin’s when he’ll get back to this thread.

Spot on. First cycle Audouin's Gull. Meanwhile in the same genus as Pallas' s.
I should have got it from the first pic.

Thank you all very much!

I'd have left Dakar wondering which kind of shearwater I saw

Cheers,

Jose
