What is your favorite kind of animal??? (1 Viewer)

what is your favorite kind of animal?

as y'all may already know, my favorite kind of animal are wolves..they are gorgous animals, and when I get older, I plan on getting a job to protect them and keep them alive for future generations...

my second favorite kind of animal would be manatees, I have seen them in real life, but it was at a local aquarium.....I would love to see them out in the wild..maybe down in Florida or wherever they are located at..

what are your favorite kind of animals?

Hi although Birds are my main enjoyment i always feel privilaged to observe any other wildlife.

As far as mammals go i love to watch Stoats bags full of character and full of surprises.

Cuddy.

I'm very partial to foxes. I get them in my yard regularly in the winter... last winter we had 6! So far this winter, only one but she's gorgeous! I look forward to every October when it's time for them to move into town again.

Hi Bird Wolf lover, almost an impossible question to answer as there are so many types of animal that I "like" for one reason or another, whether for being unusual to look at, the fastest, the most specialised, the most opportunistic or if they represent what is thought to be the most primitive or advanced of their respective kind and how they differ from each other.

Well, after all that blurb and sticking with just mammals as Cuddy has done (and another member of the carnivora) I would go for the fantastically beautiful Caracal Felis caracal, especially the pale creamy form with the very short fur. The black tufts on the tips of the ears really stand out. A superb bird hunter, able to catch a fast flying bird as it passes overhead with lightning reactions!!!!

I can definately say that the House Mice that are currently inhabiting my pantry are my least favourite animal (your day will come Messrs. House Mouse . . .). My cottage is 150 years old, so I often get the odd mouse, but never anything like the numbers that have recently descended on me! Favourites include Roe Deer (beautiful), Wildcats (magnificent), Brown Hares (simply incredible- take a look at their lifestyle) . . . and yearling Sika Deer . . . the best venison available in the UK in my opinion!

saluki

Personally I am interested in all wildlife, but nothing else quite gets to me like the birdies.

As such, it's hard to come up with a non-bird as a second-favourite.

But, I really do rather like dogs, so by extension I suppose that means I'm with you on the wolves, BWL, and with Tammie on the foxes.

(BTW, Tammie, I'm interested in what passes for a "fox" round your way... for us it's the Red Fox.

http://www.mainerivers.org/species/red_fox.htm

I notice the above links to a Maine Red Fox, so perhaps they're up your way too - although I guess we probably all have different sub-species.)

Otters - there is something magical about everyone's first ever wild otter and what can be better than achieving that on Skye (not at Kylerhea).

2nd place goes to Asiatic elephants because I worked with the captive herd at Chester in 1999.

3rd place (am I allowed so many choices?) goes to the shark family but particularly lesser spotted dogfish and the less glamorous species that I worked with at uni.

WOODLICE!

Those i pretty like. When i was a freshman i had to collect 30 of them for biology class and since then i kinda think they are funny. My mom however hates them and always calls me to get rid of them asa they apear :)

I used to make woodlice wrestle each other...of course i was 10 at the time (hope people dont think im too weird)

Wolves are great, but for me nothing can beat raptors (particularly owls). Though I am partial to whales and dolphins, not to mention large cats and...(the list goes on).

WOW!

some interesting answers...especially the one about woodlice...but hey, everyone is their own...:)

I also like squirells too!
I also like gerbils..since I own a couple myself...they are cute little things! (I am starting to like mice..I mean, sure they are pests, but they can be cute! LOL)

have a couple of questions..

what is a woodlice????
is it something thats only over at the U.K?

and also, what is Caracal Felis caracal?

its so neat how I get to hear so many different kinds of animals and birds from different parts of the world!

I also dont think I can ever pick a "favorite animal" soooo I like all of them! LOL

Whales for me.. big rorquals. I've seen Fin and Sei so far... I'd probably trade a UK surprise seawatch Albatross for a Blue

Hi Bird Wolf Lover, a woodlouse is a crustacean (related to crabs, lobsters and crayfish) though many species are land living, usually inhabiting damp places with rotting plant material such as leaf litter or of course wood.
The Caracal (Felis caracal) is a type of Lynx from African savanna and semi-desert into parts of Asia minor and India. There is some disagreement over it's status as a true Lynx though.

Some good info on the species though it is still called Lynx caracal on this site: Click Here

Edited for spelling the word rotten as wrotten!!!!

This is difficult! I am a cat person but I love so many animals.

The Caracal is a huge favorite. They have the most beautiful coloring and form.

I have a mysterious connection with the Luna Moth. I can never forget that first meeting with one when I was 5 yrs old.

I do love wolves, bobcats, pumas, dolphins, hawks...there are too many beautiful animals to decide.
