Across the reserve today:

6+ Cetti's Warbler, 88 Tufted Duck, 6 Oystercatcher, 6 Green Woodpecker

Heres a list of my sightings from today:

The Sailing Pool:
Great Crested Grebe, Coot, Mallard and Tufted Duck.

The Flashes:
Canada Goose, Greylag Goose, Shelduck, Teal, Moorhen, Curlew, Avocet, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Grey Heron, Black-Headed Gull, Woodpigeon, Stock Dove, Jackdaw, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Green Woodpecker, Blackbird, Robin, Dunnock, Blue Tit, Great Tit and Pied Wagtail.

Moors Pool:
Mute Swan, Shoveler, Pochard, Cormorant, Little Egret, Buzzard, Wren, Long-Tailed Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch and Lesser Redpoll.

An hour at each this afternoon, pretty much the same as Chris's sightings....46 species in total.

Grey Wagtail (pair) at the flashes, 5 Siskins in mixed flock with 2 Lesser Redpolls at Moors Pool, 1 Cetti's Warbler Moors Pool.

1 Lesser-Black-backed Gull in amongst the Black-headed Gulls at the Flashes and 6 Curlew.

No Wheatear or Sand Martin just yet!
 
looks like spring has arrived,Highlights Nuthatch and Treecreeper heard by the East hide,the latter seen also at the end of the boardwalk at the flashes. The surprise of the day 2 Roe Deer in the North Moors.

With Dave W scoring a female Marsh Harrier down on his patch late afternoon (may have roosted?) it's worth keeping an eye out tomorrow for all large raptors

Tuesday work party

Tomorrow we will be working on Amy's Marsh. This will cause a bit of disturbance. the duck will go to the north end of the pool.
Work includes. stock fencing. strimming around the Broadmeadow. Depending on the water levels we will be shoring up the Pool island.

work party today

A great effort today. 16 of us opened up the Broadmeadow east bank, also cleared the 2 main islands off shore of Amy's marsh, also strimmed the dry bank of reeds on SE corner of Broadmeadow. Continued stock fencing.

Birding at Moors

Nothing spectacular today at the Moors. Only 1 snipe and no jacks flushed during work party.
Species count MOORS:
GCG 2, little grebe 4, little egret 2,
shoveler 19, gadwall 7 (2 prs + 3 males), shelduck 6, teal 12,
pochard 31 (22 male ), tufted 33,
coot 90, water rail, greylag 3,
snipe, oystercatcher 4, lapwing
Buzzard 2,
stock dove 2, collared dove, green woodp, great sp w 2, kingfisher 2.
redpoll 5, siskin, goldfinch 8, cetti's 2 (the red ringed individual now 3 or 4 years old),
Treecreeper behind east hide. Nuthatch. song thrush singing.

Flashes This Evening

Water level at 0.42 but appears much higher with reference to islands etc.
Lapwings displaying in meadow and in front of hide.
Late on a jack flew along 1st flash with another landing in front of hide with the roosting green sands. Strangely 20 of the avocets were upending feeding in the 1st Flash. Most impressive was the winter thrush flock that covered the whole of the sloping east field behind the 3rd Flash

Little egret, greylag 5, mute swan pr, Teal 34, gadwall 4 (pr + 2 males), shoveler 2, shelduck 2, coot 20+
Avocet 22, snipe 2, jack snipe 2, green sand 3, curlew 7, lapwing 59, oystercatcher 2.
BHG 1100 roosted , LBBG 2,
stock dove 5,
Fieldfare 150+, redwing 400+, starling 45, song thrush cetti's w,
pied wag a rarity lately.

Interesting note on the Avocets, it jogged my memory on Saturday they where mainly over that side with a couple in front of the avocet hide.Here's one for you to ponder do you think that there food source has been concentrated that area due the draining of the flashes recently?

Yesterday, the 23 Avocets were fairly well spread about...but there were a large group (10-12) feeding on 1st flash in this fashion...
