Merino Base Layer (1 Viewer)

Given the long range weather forecast of a cold winter. I'm looking for recommended merino base layers. Do I need 100 per cent or if not what sort of mix should I consider.

Any advice appreciated

For merino 100% and heavy denier, and be aware that some of the budget offerings can be very light.

Aldi have sold a very, very good quality 'ski' set if you don't mind the go faster stripes, although they may not be in store for this winter just yet.

If buying online be sure to check the sleeve length of the top ; some of the fashion brands come with short sleeves!

By far and away my first choice is 100% silk (try Patra). Best time to buy would be in their mid summer sale. Even so they are normally priced at about the same or slightly less than the highly branded sports mix synthetics which in comparison look like a waste of money.

I wear a base layer daily during the winter and have done so for years.

Best wishes,

I bought several Craghopper merino tops and was very pleased with them - no itch, no smell & very warm.
Just be careful when washing them - I ended up with one a small child would struggle to get into.
