Hi does anyone use these and if so are they to strong for general birding? If yes what are the reasonably priced alternatives?

Yes, 12x is generally too much magnification to keep a steady view while being handheld. Most birders prefer 7x-8x for the steady and wider fields of view. I really like the Bushnell 8x42mm Legend Ultra HD.
 
Shakes are a non issue for image stabilized gear such as the Canon 12x36IS.
More generally, even an old 12x50 porro makes an excellent birding tool. The extra reach and detail provided by the higher power are fair compensation for the narrower field covered. This is of course a minority opinion.
