Seal Sands and area to west of road (1 Viewer)

First time for me, sister driving.
Parked up and walked along road north to metal ‘hide’ and we were thrilled to see a male marsh harrier, hunting for maybe 5 minutes about 200yds to the west, slowly flying south, eventually mobbed by lapwings.
At least 14 avocets on the lake east of the road by old road lay-by. Probably saw two dozen all morning.
Walked eastwards by creek towards seal sands bay and saw from a long distance I first thought a shag, but when close we found it was a female red breasted merganser. It fished in the creek then flew off seawards along the creek, probably disturbed by two blokes digging things from mud.
Tide well out and from the hide we could see 3 dozen seals out in the bay. A pair of curlews and various waders/gulls/shelduck.
On way back maybe half a mile south of the creek we saw more than a dozen whimbrel on the meadow.

Lovely sunny morning, saw maybe 8-10 other people. Drove to Saltholme and the car park was full.

And finally there were pipits in the area between the seal sands hide and the fenced area due east. Flying from rocks by the bay to the bushes and scrub as we walked. Quite dark, possibly rock pipits?
