Not exactly an alpha, but Orion has their 8x42 "Deluxe" bino on sale from $169 down to $99.

It is a roof prism, 7.4 deg field, "waterproof", BaK-4, close focus of 4', some level of multi-coating, with 18mm of eye relief.

Cabelas has their annual sale on Leupold Yosemite porros. This year it looks like it's only the 10x30's, but $75 is a great price for these. If they were 8x30's or 6x30's they'd be my undisputed recommendation for kids, but the 10x30's might be hard for a child to keep steady.

Meostar B1 8x42 for $541, with free shipping. The downside is the 3 to 5 week delivery estimate (sounds like they are out of stock but still accepting orders). Not sure about Amazon's policy for when they charge your card.

More Meostar deals at Amazon

They've got the 7x42 for $600

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...&pf_rd_i=typ01

Amazingly, they have the 7x50 for $390! It said they only had one in stock with more on the way, so I ordered it.

That 7X50 is at a huge discount, if I knew more about them I might get a pair myself. I really don't need them though.

Yes, I saw that. It is a shame. They're great bins for my purposes. I'm spending my winters in Florida now and the Meostar 7x50s are just about perfect for walking on the beach at sunrise.

The optical quality is impressive. I doubt my 57 year old eyes dilate enough to make full use of the 7mm exit pupil, but at least I'm looking through the sweet spot in the centre of the exit pupils.

The big surprise is that the AFOV doesn't seem as small as I expected. These are my first 7x50 roofs. I've read on the forum that roofs give the illusion of slightly higher magnification than porros. So, maybe that's why the AFOV seems larger than a 7x50 porro with a 7.2 FOV.

I'd rate them as a spectacular bargain at $390. I had thought that they'd been discontinued or were being replaced with HD versions, but maybe not. I hope some other forum members ordered them. Many thanks to Peatmoss for finding the deal!

I've always wondered about those Northfork binoculars. Wonder where they fit or did fit in the Leupold lineup.

Binocular Deal - Bruntons

Hello everyone I have never posted here but have found very helpful insight by reading what people have shared so I thought I would contribute.

I just received a pair of Brunton Epoch 8.5x43 Binoculars from Botach.com for $250.00. I spent the afternoon outside with them and am entirely impressed with the quality of glass and the design and materials used.

I have compared these today to a pair of Zeiss HD Conquest 8x42 and have recently used a pair of Vortex Razor 8x42. I think that the optics on the brunton are well in the ball park of these other two binoculars. And the build of the binoculars is top grade entirely. For the price paid its a total steal.

They may have a bit narrower of a view than the others but it has not been something that has bothered me today.
