Bittern 'Booming' in late November

Whilst out Birding at first light this morning, I heard from the edge of a reed bed, what I would have confidently identified in early Spring, as a Booming Bittern, with an occasional grunting sound being heard also,....but in late November, surely this can't be correct.

I must stress, that at no point was a bird observed, to enable me to be 100% certain it actually was a Bittern, but I'm struggling to find other alternatives.

Any thoughts anyone please?

I don't think tie of year rules anything out. Stick to your instincts.

I was told wasting my time going for Duponts in October and bingo.
I've heard Tengmalms in July etc etc

Hi Rosbifs...........thanks very much for your reply.

I can see that your another Birder, that like myself, has also learnt over the years, the simple fact,......that is,.........'The birds don't write the books!'
