Hawk Raptor Identification 6/27 - New Haven, CT (1 Viewer)

This bird was seen today near New Haven, CT. It looks to be a hawk but I'm not sure what kind, as I compared it to the known species of the area and it looked somewhat different. I did not take the picture, but it was described to me as a large bird eating a squirrel, perhaps bigger than a chicken or maybe slightly bigger than a red shouldered hawk. It has an eagley demeanor which my novice eye doesn't distinguish well, but I do think it's a hawk.

Thanks for all the help!

Lightly marked Eastern Red-tailed Hawk. Note the "back strap" markings on its scapulars and its lightly marked belly band and dark malar mark. Gray squirrels are a typical prey.
