What is an 'Irish thrush'?

A non-birding friend recently visited the Malin Head area and described five birds present on the ground near farmland. About crow sized, black head and tail with a grey back. I suggested Hooded Crow but she'd looked in a book and said no. A local had told her "we call those Irish Thrushes". Anyone any idea what he was talking about please.

My thoughts too Richard, I'll find a few more photos of Hoodies to show her.

I suspect a Hooded Crow is an Irish Thrush in the same way as the Irish Sea Scout's tent sank.
