Hi folks

My initial thought was that this was a brown snake-eagle....however the yellow on the beak is throwing me. Dont think its a young Bataleur.

Any thoughts? Seen in June, Masai Mara

Thanks!

Gavin

Hello

I believe it is a snake eagle , but confused between brown or western banded . I am leaning towards western banded.

Hi,

I'd go with Circaetus cinerascens (Banded Snake Eagle in my book) based on; yellow bill, extent of barring on flanks, undertail pattern and the relative tail length.

that's all correct, english name being Western Banded Snake Eagle as bassel said

I agree with Circaetus cinerascens, either called Western Banded Snake Eagle (then the similar Eastern species is call Eastern Banded Snake Eagle) or Banded Snake Eagle (then the Eastern bird is called Fasciated Snake Eagle).

Cheers
