Durham ,Butterflies, Moths and Dragonflies. (3 Viewers)

saw a couple of moths out feeding on flowers nr Dawdon this afternoon
2 types doing this, but only managed to photo 1 of them

lots of very fresh Red Admirals
sev Speckled Woods, Tortoiseshells
2 each of Peacock & Common Blue

Hi Steve the moths are called Silver Y.It's a migrant and some years we get huge numbers of them coming in from the Mediterranean and North Africa.I saw a few in the spring and there seems to be a good number of them around at he moment.

Testo's Pool this afternoon still a few Common Darters around a single BT Damselfly also 5 Migrant Hawkers and a male Southern Hawker.Not many butterflies seen a part from 11Speckled Woods.Back in the garden 5 Red Admirals,3 Small Torts and a Speckled Wood.
 
A walk along to Old Marsden Quarry this morning produced a Few Red Admirals,Speckled woods and a single White.............Laurence :)

Just came back from Zakynthos,great place to see Hummingbird Hawkmoths,got some canny pics and a little video,they were all over!!!
 
still hundreds of specled woods about in the colliery woods, not much else.
fleeting glimpse of something small blue and washed out looking before it disappeared in brambles.

Excellent day for butterflies in the garden especially for Red Admirals they seem to be the commonest species in the garden this year apart from whites.

It's been another good year for Speckled Woods certainly seeing more of them in the garden.

Still plenty of butterflies in the garden today some of them are starting to go on the Ice plant flowers which are coming out now.So hopefully should have butterflies in the garden for another couple of weeks or so as long as the weather stays mild.
